Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon

These two cute guys want to say well done to all those who ran the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM)yesterday!!! Many of my friends ran yesterday's race - one qualified for Boston and another had a PB. My husband and I went down to watch the race and were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the front runners running at about kilometer 32 and these men and women were still SPRINTING, not running, but sprinting. That was truly inspirational.

I was a little sad to be sitting on the sidelines this year as the STWM was my first (and so far only) marathon. When I found out I was pregnant in the spring I had just come of a PB in a 10km and half marathon race and I was training for another marathon. Those plans were put on hold but once the baby comes I plan on trying to run a sub four hour marathon (yikes I said it, I put it out there). The STWM was a fantastic first marathon - nice and flat - and while I might not be quite up to par next September considering the baby is due in January I'm sure it is a race I will run again one day.

The above picture is of my kids with the shirts my husband made for them to wear while they watched me run my first marathon. It says Run Like the Wind Mommy on the front with the date of the marathon on the back. I had no idea that he had done this and when we saw them on the sidelines at 30 km I was pretty tickled.

I'm back...slower...but back nonetheless

That's right, I'm back running, well sort of. I finally feel better (touch wood) and have been back at the gym where I have been trying a run/bike combo. It feels great to be back running, although at a very modified pace. I hope I can keep going for the next 16 weeks. The one thing I am finding at six months pregnant is the baby seems to be sitting quite low so there is a lot of lower stomach pressure when I run, but I find breaking into a walk once and awhile helps with that. Hopefully I will be able to keep going until this little guy is ready to get here.

Maybe it was not meant to be

When I started my running blog in the middle of the summer it was meant to chronicle my attempts at running throughout my pregnancy and then my return to running in the spring after the baby is born. I felt like the goal of continued running was attainable as I had run a PB half marathon and 10km while in the early months of this pregnancy and had even been training for a second marathon. But alas my body had other ideas. You see with this third pregnancy I have been sick, really sick. I have had the usual early nausea sickness and exhaustion, coupled with terrible flues and cold, the latest turning into a full blown sinus infection which required antibiotics from which I had an allergic reaction to culminating in a massive hive breakout. Phew!

I don’t want to complain and I certainly don’t want this blog to come off as whiny. But I guess I want to capture how I felt at this time and describe why I’m not running so when I look back on this stage of my pregnancy I have a journal of why I didn’t manage to hit my goal. But the good news now is that I am starting to feel better and hope to get back out there, even if it is only a slow shuffle.
